In January 2021 the actual unemployment rate in Latvia comprised 8.8 %, which is 0.6 percentage points more than in December. Unemployment rate registered by the State Employment Agency (SEA) accounted for 8.0 % - an increase of 0.3 percentage points, compared to December. An unemployment rate increase may be observed when comparing the data to the January of the previous year – of 1.4 percentage points in actual unemployment rate and 1.6 percentage points in the registered unemployment rate.
In January 2021 there were 84.1 thousand unemployed in Latvia, which is 5.4 thousand more than in December and 11.8 thousand more than in the respective period of the previous year. During the last 10 months since the first declaration of emergency situation, compared to the actual monthly unemployment data of March 2020, the number of unemployed has increased by 7.5 thousand, reads the recent data of the Labor Force Survey (LFS) conducted by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) of Latvia.
As for December 2020, there were 80.5 thousand unemployed in Latvia, which was 3.9 thousand more than in November and 16.8 thousand more than in the respective period of the previous year. In November 2020 there were 76.6 thousand unemployed in Latvia, which was 1.7 thousand more than in October and 20.7 thousand more than in the respective period of the previous year. In October 2020 there were 74.9 thousand unemployed in Latvia, which was 2.5 thousand less than in September and 20.8 thousand more than in the respective period of the previous year.
In the 3rd quarter of 2020 Latvian unemployment rate comprised 8.4 %. Compared to the previous quarter, unemployment rate had dropped by 0.2 percentage points, but during a year – increased by 2.4 percentage points.
In the 2nd quarter of 2020 Latvian unemployment rate comprised 8.6 %. Compared to the previous quarter, rate of unemployment had risen by 1.2 percentage points, but during a year – by 2.2 percentage points.
In the 1st quarter of 2020 Latvian unemployment rate comprised 7.4 %. Compared to the previous quarter, rate of unemployment had risen by 1.4 percentage points, but during a year – by 0.5 percentage points.
