Georgia Achieved Significant Progress In Terms Of Protecting Intellectual Property - PM

Priority directions of the productive cooperation existing between Georgia and World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), along with current and future projects were among the topics discussed today by Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia and Daren Tang, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

The Head of Government of Georgia expressed his gratitude to the Director General of WIPO for the valuable support demonstrated to the Government of Georgia in the implementation of its reform agenda over years and noted that significant progress has been achieved by the country in terms of protecting intellectual property (IP). Readiness was expressed towards deepening the fruitful cooperation even further.

It was noted at the meeting that Georgia is actively engaged in the work of a regional group for Central Europe and Baltic States (CEBS) at WIPO and has successfully completed the coordination of the referred group in 2017 and 2021. Achievements and successful performance of Georgia as a regional coordinator of the group was highlighted at the meeting. It was noted that the WIPO delegation gave a high assessment to the efforts made by Georgia in the capacity of a regional group coordinator.

It was also mentioned that engagement in the CEBS Regional Group created new opportunities for sharing the EU experience by Georgia and it is given a special importance in the better delivery of commitments assumed by the country under the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) and for the development of an intellectual property system in Georgia.

Meeting held at the Government Administration was attended by Hasan Kleib, WIPO Deputy Director General; Habip Asan, WIPO Department Head for Transitional and Developed Countries; Alexandre Maisuradze, Permanent Representative of Georgia at UN System Institutions and Other International Organizations Operating in Geneva.
