Population often blames small and super market chains for increased prices on bread. According to them, the stores artificially increase prices and in some cases, it exceeds dozens of tetri.
"Bakery company Margi told me, that their bread price is grown by 55 tetri. Previously 5 tetri was remained to the store from the sold product. Regulations are definitely necessary... Price liberalization does not mean that you can increase prices as much as you want,” said Malkhaz Dolidze, head of the Bread Bakers' Association.
President of Georgian Retailers Association Luka Chelidze confirms that recently bread price is 5-7 tetri up. According to him, none of the retailers are interested in price increase.
"The bread price is grown by 5-10 tetri at the shops, but it is conditioned due to the current socio-economic situation.
We depend on the price of imports, raw materials, enterprises and distribution. There is no case, when the store voluntarily increases the price without the distributor’s agreement”, said Luka Chelidze.
