The Director of the United Airports of Georgia visited the local airport of Mestia named after Queen Tamar Airport on a two-day working visit. Irakli Karkashadze met the employees of the airport and introduced the planned infrastructural innovations at the local airport.

"The development of Mestia Airport is one of the main priorities for 2023. This year, we are planning a number of innovations related to Queen Tamar Airport. This airport, which is 12 years old, has been used by more than 60,000 local and international visitors. This clearly showed us that Mestia Airport is very important. We are planning to implement large infrastructure projects at Mestia airport: terminal rehabilitation, we are planning to build a new fire depot, as well as to completely replace the existing special equipment", - said Irakli Karkashadze.

Regarding the increase of frequencies on the existing routes, director of the Association of Airports of Georgia explains that the tender for the procurement of domestic flights, which will be announced soon, will probably include new routes.

During 2022, the share of foreign citizens on the Mestia-Kutaisi-Mestia direction was 70%, while on the Natakhtari-Mestia-Natakhtri direction - 37.5%.
