It would be wrong to say that we've defeated corruption - we've to say the fight against the corruption is a permanent challenge in an economy like us", - stated PM Giorgi Gakharia at the Parliament. As Gakharia noted, the fight against corruption is a permanent challenge for developing countries. He also added that Georgia is a leading country in the region in terms of fighting corruption.

"When speaking about public governance we can't avoid corruption topic. Fighting and taking preventive measures against corruption is a permanent challenge for developing countries. It would be wrong to say that we've defeated corruption - we've to say the fight against corruption is a permanent challenge in an economy like us. We have to refine the corruption-fighting mechanisms on an everyday basis. The development and progress in this domain are noted in the international ratings which usually univocally confirm our growth in the effectiveness in fighting corruption.

The World Justice ranking for 2020 places Georgian at first in the region and 42nd worldwide in terms of the non-existence of corruption. The International Transparency rankings for 2019 also put Georgian in the leading position in our region and 44th in the world. I'm saying it again, it doesn't mean that we've defeated corruption. It means that we're gradually progressing in this direction. We understand that the fight against corruption for the transitional economies and democracies are crucial. We should always take into account that the development of corruption-fighting mechanisms is a permanent task", - stated Gakharia.
