According to Geostat, mobile phones and smartphones worth of 114.5 million USD was imported in January-September, 2020. Decline totals to 15.9% y-o-y.
The reduction is less in the case of large store chains, but the condition is different with the private dealers.
According to private dealers, the purchase price of mobile devices abroad has increased, while people in our country are refraining from buying expensive models.
Dealers notes, that they avoid import of mobile phones due to the depreciation of national currency against the US dollar.
“We avoid to import expensive mobile phones from abroad due to the devaluation of national currency against USD. Demand on mobile phones is significantly reduced for more than half a year. Customers prefer to buy used mobile phones. If the condition is not changed, half of the stores will be closed down”, private dealer Salome Grdzelishvili told BM.GE.
As for the premium segment smart phone re-seller companies, iSpace told BM.GE, that demand is also grown on low cost mobile phones.
