Energy Regulator Head Says No Utility Tariff Increase Is Expected

Davit Narmania, the head of the Georgian national energy and water supply regulatory commission, on Wednesday introduced the 2021 activity report to the Parliament. The document included all main directions of the commission's activity.

Davit Narmania made a special emphasis on the innovations, implemented in the regulatory commission during 2021 and highlighted the new regulations established in accordance with the EU integration agenda. He also spoke about the process of developing the regulatory framework and harmonizing it with the legislation of the Energy Union.

"During the year, the commission worked actively in the area of ​​harmonization with European legislation, and during this period about 20 new sub-articles and regulations were adopted, which prepared the legal basis for opening the market in the electricity sector, and at the same time started working on the preparation of the normative basis for the opening of the market in the natural gas sector," said Davit Narmania.

According to the Parliament of Georgia, he also spoke about the newly introduced services as a result of the reforms carried out in the Commission, which made it easier for the customers to communicate with utility companies. Davit Narmania also said that there were no plans to increase utility tariffs during the autumn and winter season of this year.
