Georgian economy minister Levan Davitashvili on Thursday said the government would ensure transformation of the country into a transit corridor and logistics hub that would make rapid transportation and communication available for “businesses on two continents”.

The ministry of economy cited Davitashvili as having made the statement at the ministerial conference of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Programme, hosted in an online format on Thursday.

The Georgian official drew attention to CAREC's new post-pandemic framework document, which provides green, sustainable and inclusive recovery of the economy.

"It is a framework that allows us to enhance cooperation and productivity across the region through digitisation, innovation and investment. This will allow us to be resilient to future challenges, rebuild trade and become stronger, more connected and more inclusive", he said.

He also told the Conference its strategy document CAREC 2030 was "very ambitious and comprehensive" and covered “all trade and economic areas” outlined in special operational clusters.

The economy minister said Georgia supported the goals of CAREC's integrated trade agenda within the strategy, which has been promoted as aiming to help members better integrate into the global economy, strengthen their growth potential and improve the living standards of the region's residents.
