ISET Policy Institute published a New Year’s Supra Index 2020. The Index shows the cost of a standard festive “supra” meal for a family of five or six people in each region of Georgia.
Traditional dishes included in the calculations are: mtsvadi (grilled cubes of meat), satsivi (chicken in walnut sauce), khachapuri, trout, (pan fried) chicken tabaka, salad Olivie, pkhali(chopped and minced vegetables).
The average price of a New Year's Supra this year is 168.2 GEL, which is 4.2% higher than in 2019.
In December 2020, compared to December 2019, almost all products became more expensive. Prices increased on the following products: cheese (15%), eggs (11%), tomatoes (10%), milk (9%), eggplant (7%), chicken (6%), honey (95). However, the value of apples (-10%), carrots (-8%) and potatoes (-3%) decreased.
Prices are especially grow for imported products. Also, price increases are recorded for products for the production of which imported production facilities are used. The pressure on the prices of imported products is grown due to the depreciation of the Georgian lari. However, the national currency has depreciated by 13.5% against the US dollar in December 2020 comparing to December 2019.
