The newly-elected Speaker, Shalva Papuashvili serves his first official working visit to Belgium to hold the meetings in the NATO Brussels Headquarter.

The Parliamentary Delegation, headed by the Speaker will participate in the NATO-Georgia Commission (NGC) meeting.

The Speaker will deliver the speech at the meeting.

The visit also includes the meeting with the NATO Deputy Secretary General.

According to the Chair of the Defense and Security Committee, Irakli Beraia, the first visit of the Speaker is of a symbolic and contextual nature confirming the importance and key priority of NATO integration.

“Naturally, the visit coincides with the important events when the NATO allies and aspirant states jointly strive to deter the threats deriving from the Russian Federation aiming at undermining the rules-based international order. Together with our partners, we will hold a discussion concerning these threats. Naturally, the visit is of special meaning. Georgia is the most operable aspirant partner state to the NATO enjoying the special cooperation as in political so in practical terms, which achieved the highest point. The Bucharest Summit has ordered that Georgia will become the NATO member state and our task is to realize this decision as soon as possible and within the reasonable terms”, - he stated.

According to the Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, Nikoloz Samkharadze, it is paramount that this visit coincides with a particularly complicated situation in the region and the NATO-Russia negotiations.

“We attach the utmost importance to the obtainment of information from the primary source about the negotiations and how strong is NATO in supporting Georgia. We want to discuss our perspectives, development scenarios and the steps to be taken by us and NATO for the acceleration of the accession of Georgia to NATO. It is critical since everyone today comes to realize that the European security lies through the security of Georgia and Ukraine and thus, suspension and concessions are inadmissible”, - he noted.

The Delegation is headed by the Speaker and composed of Irakli Beraia, Nikoloz Samkharadze and the First Deputy Foreign Minister, Lasha Darsalia.
