Geostat reports, that 16,359 marriages have been registered in 2020, showing 29.7% decrease in comparison to the previous year.
COVID-related restrictions have been the main reasons for marriage decrease. Along with the marriage decrease, the number of live births registered a 3.7% decline from the previous year amounting to 46,520 in 2020.
According to Geostat, the number of deaths increased by 8.3% in annual terms and totaled 50,537 persons.
As a result of death increase and birth number decrease, the negative natural increase (the difference between the number of live births and the number of deaths) equaled -4,017 in Georgia.
The number of divorces in 2020 equaled 7,643 decreasing by 31.8 % compared to the previous year.
