Some 250,798 tourists visited Armenia in the first quarter of 2022. Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan said in a Facebook post.
According to him, 87,131 tourists visited the country in the first quarter of 2021 and 333,150 in January-March 2019, ARKA reports.
As reported, the number of foreign tourists visiting Armenia in 2021 grew by 2.4 times from 2020 to 870,308 people.
According to the National Statistical Committee, 403,261 of foreign tourists were women and 467,047 were men. The majority of them -447,031 - were aged 36-63. Also, some 10.529 foreign tourists were 16-17 years old, ARKA reports.
Most of the tourists visiting Armenia were from Russia (350,569 people or 40.3% of the total), tourists from Iran were second (91,148 people or 10.5%) and those from Georgia third (70,630 people or 8.1%).
Besides, last year Armenia was also visited by the citizens of the USA (31,662 people), Ukraine (22, 267), India (17,980), France (14,310), Germany (11, 936), the Netherlands (7,573), Belarus (7,244), Belgium (5,744), Kazakhstan (5,451), Philippines (4, 461), Turkey (3,729), UK (3,756), Poland (4, 176), Iraq (4, 004), Lebanon (3, 373) Sweden (2, 532), and Italy (2,231).
Least tourists were from Benin, Gabon, Gambia, Guyana, Guinea, Libya, Jamaica, Monaco, Namibia, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Togo, Tanzania, Tonga and Fiji (1 tourist from each of these countries).
At the same time, 423,380 Armenian citizens travelled abroad as tourists, up from 301,326 in 2020 (an increase of 40.5%).
