Amiran Gamkrelidze, head of the National Center for Disease Control, does not know exactly when Remdesivir will be available in Georgia, but notes, that the medicine will arrive soon.

“As far as I know, the Ministry of Health has a contract with one of the leading companies and Remdesivir should be in the country soon, but the medicine is not for a daily usage. It must be used only in doctors' prescriptions,” said Amiran Gamkrelidze.

Speaking on Remdesivir, the head of the NCDC cited the example of Tengiz Tsertsvadze, director of the Infectious Diseases Hospital, who used the drug.

"There was WHO recommendation that according to several studies, Remdesivir did not give valid results, although many countries and many clinics use this drug. Tengiz Tsertsvadze also used it and the result is positive,” said Gamkrelidze.
