What Does Georgia Sell/Buy In The EU?

In 2021 the external merchandise trade (excluding non-declared trade) of Georgia amounted to USD 14.3 million, 25.6 percent higher to the 2020.

Of the total external merchandise, trade turnover with 27 member countries of the EU totaled to USD 3.024 billion, the figure was 18.7% more compared to 2020, but lagged behind the pre-pandemic level (2019 - USD 3.1 billion).

The official statistics show, that small share accounts for the exports in the trade turnover with the EU and Georgia received a revenue of USD 717.1 million. The figure is 2.9% higher compared to the exports 2020 amid the pandemic, while 10.9% lower compared to 2019.

The main commodity groups sold in the EU in 2021 were copper ores and concentrates. The TOP-10 of goods exported to 27 member countries of the EU is as follows:

1. Copper ores and concentrates - 143 404 tons, cost of USD 314.9 million;
2. Nuts and other nuts - 16,333 tons, cost of USD 80 million;
3. Mineral and chemical fertilizers - 177 641 tons; cost of USD 47.3 million;
4. Natural grape wines - 8 685 tons, cost of USD 28.6 million;
5. Ferroalloys - 17 534 tons, cost of USD 23.8 million;
6. Cars - USD 21 million;
7. Alcoholic beverages and ethyl alcohol - 6,780 tons, cost of USD 20.8 million;
8. Mineral and fresh waters - 30 724 tons; cost of USD20 million;
9. Precious metal scrap - 152 tons, cost of USD19.6 million;
10. Wood products - 4 243 tons, cost of USD 11.3 million.

According to the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat), the largest share of trade between Georgia and the EU accounts for the imports. Last year, products worth of USD 2.307 billion was exported from the country in this direction, which exceeds the figure for both 2020 and 2019 (2020 - USD 1.8 billion; 2019 - USD 2.304 billion).

It turned out that oil and petroleum products occupied the first place in the TOP-10 of goods imported from EU countries, medicaments put up in measured doses stood on the second position, while motorcars – on the third. As for the rating, the list of TOP-10 items is as follows:

1. Oil and oil products - 446 095 tons, cost of USD 312.9 million;
2. Medicaments put up in measured doses - 3,171 tons, cost of USD 223.2 million;
3. Motorcars – USD 128.1 million;
4. Trucks - USD 64.1 million;
5. Telephones - 170 tons, cost of USD 40 million;
6. Tractors and saddlebags – USD 38.5 million;
7. Human and animal blood, immune serums - 41 tons, cost of USD 38.1 million;
8. Mixed goods - USD 33 million;
9. Medical and veterinary equipment - 346 tons, cost of USD 31.2 million;
10. Computing machines - 185 tons, cost of USD 31.1 million.
