We still have to expect lari strengthening, - TBC chief economist Otar Nadaraia told TV-Program Business Morning.
"Many believe that a weak exchange rate has its advantages, but others think on contrary.
National currency has been overvalued against the dollar and other currencies in the resent period and it is good that it has strengthened now. However, overall it still remains depreciated. GEL has strengthened against USD, but the so-called effective rate is not strengthened yet, which allows us to predict that we still have to expect lari strengthening.
Speaking of the positive part, I should mention the news on release of vaccine during the last 10 days, this was followed by positive cyclical changes on the markets. Taking about the expected strengthening of lari, we should also mention that we have enough foreign exchange inflows, and the second important assumption is that inflation will be close to the target," Otar Nadaraia.
