"We had a fruitful conversation with our strategic airline Wizzair. We will support the airline to strengthen its presence at the renovated Kutaisi International Airport and to have more direct traffic with EU countries. This will make our citizens, as well as tourists, more comfortable to travel through Kutaisi International Airport," Mariam Kvrivishvili, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development said after the online meeting with Wizzair Commercial Director George Michalopoulos and Victoria Sule, Airport Development Manager at Wizz Air.

Tamar Archuadze, General Director of the Georgian Airports Union also participated in the meeting.

According to Mariam Kvrivishvili, the online meeting focused on long-term cooperation with the Hungarian airline.

"Our main goal is to return the Wizzair base to Kutaisi International Airport as soon as possible within the framework of strategic cooperation, which will strengthen the tourist direction of the Imereti region, as well as help our tourism and aviation to recover quickly," she said.

Low-budget airline Wizzair closed its base in Kutaisi due to suspended flights last year.
