Today, poverty hit a historic low, - Georgia's Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili addressed the MPs in the Minister's Hour format.
According to the minister, the only way to overcome poverty is rapid economic growth.
"Poverty has been an equally painful challenge for Georgia for several decades. A healthy economy in 2021 has actually helped reduce poverty levels. In 2021, the poverty rate decreased by 3.8% from 21.3% to 17.5% compared to 2020, and it decreased by 2% compared to 2019.
We can say today that poverty hit a historic low, although we understand that it still remains a significant challenge and its level is high in the country. The only way to overcome the poverty that people can think of and that is realistic is rapid economic growth. Accordingly, we should reduce poverty as a result of the correct economic policy", said Davitashvili.
