PPI For Industrial Products Up By 3.2% in April

In April 2021 the Producer Price Index for Industrial Products increased by 3.2%compared to the previous month, while compared to April 2020 the index growth amounted to 17.5%, - show the preliminary data from National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

According to the report, the prices for manufactured products increased by 3.6% compared to March 2021, resulting in a 2.84 percentage point contribution to the overall monthly PPI change. Within the group noteworthy price increases were registered for food products (2.2%) and basic metals (12.2%). In the same period the prices for products from mining and quarrying increased by 5.6%, contributing 0.35 percentage points to the monthly index change. The prices increased for electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning by 0.5%, contributing 0.06 percentage points to the monthly index change.

The annual PPI rate was mainly affected by price changes for the following products:

• Products from mining and quarrying: the prices were 17.8% higher, contributing 0.9 percentage points to the overall annual index change. Within the group the prices were higher for metal ores (16.4 percent);

• Manufactured products: the prices increased by 16.7%, contributing 13.47 percentage points to the overall annual index growth. There was a notable increase in the prices for the following subgroups: food products (16.8%), beverages (7.7%) and basic metals (37.7%);

• Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning: the annual price increase amounted to 19.8%, which contributed 2.27 percentage points to the annual index growth;

• Water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation services: the annual price increase amounted to 30.1%, which contributed 0.83 percentage points to the annual index growth.
