Prices are grown up by 9 percent in Georgian Restaurants

In December 2019, prices in Georgian public catering establishments increased by 9% year-on-year, according to a report released by Geostat.

Geostat calculates prices for restaurants and cafes through several subcategories. The price changes in each of them are as follows:

• Lunch at the restaurant - price increase 9.09% over the previous year;
• Coffee at the cafe - price growth 7.81% over the previous year;
• Khachapuri at the cafe - 8.54% rise in prices compared to the previous year;
• Beer at the bar - price increase 4.06% over the previous year;
• Khinkali at the restaurant - 13.63% more than the previous year.

The main reason for rising food prices in the restaurants and cafes is resulted due to the food price growth. In December 2019, the value of basic foods increased by 12.3%.

According to Geostat, price changes for the following groups are as follows:

Food and non-alcoholic beverages: the prices in the group went up by 12.3 percent, contributing 3.78 percentage points to the overall annual inflation rate. The prices were higher for the following subgroups: fruit and grapes (31.9 percent), meat (14.8 percent), fish (14.2 percent), vegetables (14.1 percent), milk, cheese and eggs (13.5 percent), sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and confectionery (10.7 percent), mineral waters, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices (9.1 percent), bread and cereals (6.6 percent), coffee, tea and cocoa (5.0 percent), oils and fats (4.6 percent).

To note, annual inflation rate has amounted to 7.0% in December, 2019.
