Putin signed the law on fines for comparing the USSR with Nazi Germany

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law establishing administrative responsibility for the “public identification” of the goals and actions of the USSR and Nazi Germany, as well as the denial of the “decisive role” and “humanitarian mission” of the USSR in World War II. Document published on the official Internet portal of legal information on Saturday, April 16.

A new article has been introduced to the Code of Administrative Offenses (CAO), which provides for a fine for citizens in the amount of 1,000 to 2,000 rubles or administrative arrest for up to 15 days. For officials, the fine will be from 2,000 to 4,000 rubles (US$24-48), for legal entities – from 10,000 to 50,000 rubles (US$120 - 600).

In case of repeated violation, fines for citizens will increase to 5,000 rubles (US$60), for officials – up to 20,000 rubles, for legal entities – up to 100,000 rubles (US$240). In addition, officials will face disqualification for a period of six months to a year, legal entities – an administrative suspension of activities for up to 90 days.

The bill was approved by the Federation Council on April 13. A week before, on April 6, the State Duma adopted the amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses in the final, third reading.

Identification of the goals, decisions and actions of the leadership of the USSR and Nazi Germany during World War IIas well as the denial of “the decisive role of the Soviet people in the defeat of Nazi Germany and the humanitarian mission of the USSR in the liberation of the countries of Europe” was declared illegal in 2021. But then in law no punishment was prescribed for its violation, MailBD reports.
