Iva Chkonia, President of the Georgian Distributors' Business Association has responded to acting Finance Minister Ivane Machavariani’s statement, that VAT delay is not planned and structural change of VAT makes holes, which become uncontrollable over time.

Iva Chkonia considers Machavaraini’s statement as “harsh” and notes that such approach towards the damaged business is wrong.

"The Minister of Finance continued the existed negative course. We did not demand reduction or deferral of VAT. We demand the payment of VAT after the sale of the products. Machavariani’s harsh talk was a bit surprising especially amid pandemic, when most of the business is affected. It always brings negative," said the President of the Georgian Distributors' Business Association.

Iva Chkonia declares that he does not know what holes might raise, as the matter concerns to the solid companies.

"I cannot tell you what holes may appear in the case of these benefits. Consulting with a business might simplify the situation greatly. I understand that risks are high related to a newly registered company, as the new company may refrain from paying VAT, but we are talking about companies that have been operating for years. We can say - what we need and where we see the solution, while the rest is in the hands of the state - they can make the decision”, - Iva Chkonia said.
