Last week, the National Competition Agency published the results of monitoring carried out into the motor fuel market. Monitoring covers 7 months of the current year. The agency writes in its report that the cost of imported products from Russia is 30-70 tetri cheaper on average compared to European countries. However, large companies sell fuel at the same price.

In addition, the National Competition Agency writes about "Rompetrol" [without naming the company] that one of the companies sells the cheaply bought fuel imported from Romania to Georgia at a lower price for the wholesale than its competitors, while petrol price is high in the gas-station chain.

"Rompetrol Georgia" sells high-quality products in its chain, which the company buys from its own oil refinery "Petromidia", located in Romania.

The company is supplied with Romanian fuel corresponding to the Euro 5 standard, which is of high quality and therefore has a high cost. Cost is determined by the selling price of fuel set by the plant in a specific period taking into account various factors, this price is variable and therefore the cost of fuel purchased by us depends on the period of purchase, as well as international quotas and logistics costs.

Within the framework of wholesale trade, "Rompetrol Georgia" has long-term cooperation with various business entities, to which fuel is sold on the basis of pre-order according to the prices available at the time of ordering, and the utilization of pre-agreed quantities and accordingly customs clearance continues for a certain period of time. During this period, each new batch of fuel has a different cost price, which can be both high and low, therefore, the cost price of fuel intended for retail sale may differ from the cost price of fuel purchased for wholesale trade," Rompetrol said.
