Amiran Gamkrelidze, head of the National Center for Disease Control explains that the increased number of COVID cases is related to the expanded testing. Over 20,000 tests were administrated within the last 24 hours.
"We will have even more cases in the coming days," said Amiran Gamkrelidze, while considering the positive side of extended testing. He said early detection of asymptomatic cases would allow for a quick response.
"If we used to detect 700 to 800 positive cases with antigen test daily, according to today's data, 1,442 were detected only by antigen test and 3,600 PCR. If it expands in the coming days, we will have even more cases. We are showing more cases due to the extended testing, but by identifying relatively mild or asymptomatic people at an early stage will give us better results," said the head of the NCDC.
