Davitashvili, the candidate for the Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture, notes that the agricultural development policy should be consistent while talking about the potential of the EU export market.

According to him, in the first 11 months of 2020, goods worth $ 142 million have been exported from Georgia to the European Union, which is 35% more comparing to the same period of the last year.

"Wool and honey are not our strategic products and the focus cannot be made on this alone. These are just two of the few animal products allowed on the EU market and their share in exports is very small - several hundred thousand.

Our ambition is not to export products worth 142 million or 150-200 million USD to the EU market. What we can do is to continue the existing vision in the field of agriculture, i.e. to produce more competitive local Georgian products. No matter what barriers are removed with Europe, if we do not have products, what will we sell. So, we have to create a product for sale. Not all products will be successful in the EU, some have other markets, but the more consistent we are in our policy and the more we produce, the more we will export to the EU," - said Davitashvili.
