According to Amiran Gamkrelidze, the head of the National Center for Disease Control, transportation of the coronavirus vaccine is a problem, but the world shipping companies are working on this issue. Georgia is preparing for it as well.

“Transportation is a problem. As they say, COVID vaccine, unlike other drugs, needs a temperature of minus 20 degrees. However, it is not specified, as over 10 vaccines are going clinical trials and we do not know yet, which one will need it. World shipping companies are working on the logistical issues," - said Amiran Gamkrelidze.

As for the purchase of the vaccine, according to Amiran Gamkrelidze, Georgia has already paid for the first tranche.

"Georgia is involved in the Kovacs platform created by the Global Alliance for Vaccines. The first tranche of 700 thousand vaccines is estimated at 20% of Georgian population. The total cost is up to 17 million USD and Georgia already transferred up to 4 million USD,” said Amiran Gamkrelidze.
