"We will open the Kutaisi base, which we closed because of the pandemic, during the navigation season next summer," Andras Rado, the corporate communications manager of the Hungarian airline WizzAir, told BMG a few days ago.

The Minister of Economy Natia Turnava responded to this issue after the government session.

"Airlines are optimistic about the prospects of flying in Georgia, considering the prospects of resumption of tourism. It will not happen immediately, it will happen in stages, but it provides opportunities for Wizz Air, which we all supported in 2016 and expanded its flights. Wizz Air predicts that it will rebuild its base in Georgia next spring.

This means that the decision to cancel the base was temporary, which was caused by a pandemic. In many countries, airlines and Wizz Air among them had to reduce their bases and flights. Now they see a positive trajectory of development of our economy, which indicates that the base here will most likely be restored in the spring," the Minister said.
