Davit Songulashvili, chairman of the Sectoral Economy and Economic Policy Committee of the Parliament, declares that the protection of property rights is the most important thing, but he does not have a clear position if the rule of police eviction should be reinstated.

On December 29, 2015, by the decision of the ruling party "Georgian Dream", the rule on legal eviction was abolished. With this change, the rules for the transfer of illegally appropriated property to the legal owner became significantly complicated. Before 2015, it was possible to evict a person illegally staying in the real estate by a police force; Since 2016, it is possible to evict/evict a person from their residential area only based on a court decision, by the police enforcement.

"I want to focus once again that property rights must be protected. It is of number one importance to further develop and grow the economy because property rights are one of the important rights. Therefore, if there is any danger, we can discuss this issue. Within the framework of the committee, we are ready as much as possible, we are open to listen to the challenges faced by the business and come back with appropriate solutions and answers", said Davit Songhulashvili to told BM.GE.
