Retail Trade Turnover in Latvia Increased by 1.5 % in 2020

Retail trade turnover in Latvia rose by 1.5% in 2020 as compared to the prior year. Retail trade of food products grew by 3.5 %. Retail trade of non-food products (except for retail sale of automotive fuel) reduced by 1.9 %, of automotive fuel – rose by 6.4 %, calendar adjusted data (at constant prices) compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) of Latvia has shown.
 
In December 2020 total retail trade turnover reduced by 4.4 %, as compared to the same month of 2019. Turnover of retail trade in food products grew by 3.4 %. Retail trade in non-food products (except for retail sale of automotive fuel) decreased by 13.1 %, but turnover of retail sale of automotive fuel – increased by 6.1 %.

As compared to December 2019, the most notable turnover growth was registered in retail trade in pharmaceutical and medical goods (of 8.1 %) and retail sale of electrical household appliances in specialized stores (2.0 %). Significant turnover drop was registered in retail sale of clothing, footwear and leather goods (of 40.2 %), retail sale in stalls or markets (28.5 %) and retail sale of cultural and recreation goods (23.6 %).

Total retail trade turnover at current prices fell by 4.3 % (not taking into account the calendar influence).
 
Compared to November, the total turnover of retail trade enterprises in December 2020 fell by 5.7 %, according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices. Turnover of retail trade in food products declined by 0.4 %. Retail trade in non-food products (except for retail sale of automotive fuel) reduced by 10.8 %, but turnover of retail sale of automotive fuel – by 3.8 %.
 
As compared to the previous month, the most notable turnover growth was registered in retail trade in pharmaceutical and medical goods (of 4.1 %) and retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet (2.7 %). The most notable turnover drop was recorded in retail sale of cultural and recreation goods (of 24.1 %), retail sale of electrical household appliances in specialized stores (21.2 %), as well as retail sale of clothing, footwear and leather goods (19.4 %).
 
The total retail trade turnover at current prices (not taking into account seasonality) increased by 10.1 % in Dec 2020, as compared to Nov 2020.
