Revenue of Chinese Cultural and Related Industries Up in 2020, Reaching US$1.5 Trillion

According to the survey of 60,000 enterprises in cultural and related industries above designated size in China, in 2020, the above-mentioned enterprises achieved an operating revenue of US$ 1,524,323,869,380 (9,851.4 billion yuan), which was 2.2 percent higher than that of the previous year, with a decrease of 0.6 percent in the first three quarters; 16 industries with obvious characteristics of new cultural formats achieved an operating revenue of US$486,229,283,250 (3,142.5 billion yuan), with an increase of 22.1 percent.
 
According to the National Bureau of Statistics of China, in terms of industry categories, among the nine industries of culture and related industries, the operating revenue of news and information services was US$145,142,354,600 (938.2 billion yuan), an increase of 18.0 percent over the previous year; that of creative design services was US$242,032,843,500 (1,564.5 billion yuan), an increase of 11.1 percent; that of cultural consumption terminal production was US$291,005,858,408 (1,880.8 billion yuan), an increase of 5.1 percent; that of content creation production was US$360,121,297,025 (2,327.5 billion yuan), an increase of 4.7 percent; that of cultural investment and operation was US$6,978,075,401 (45.1 billion yuan), an increase of 2.8 percent; that of cultural equipment production was US$91,179,153,743 (589.3 billion yuan), an increase of 1.1 percent; that of cultural entertainment and leisure services, cultural communication channels, cultural auxiliary production and intermediary services decreased by 30.2, 11.8 and 6.9 percent respectively.
 
In terms of industry types, the operating revenue of cultural manufacturing industry was US$578,078,803,500 (3,737.8 billion yuan), down 0.9 percent over the previous year, 2.9 percentage points lower than that in the first three quarters; that of cultural wholesale and retail industry was US$234,752,604,809 (1,517.3 billion yuan), down 4.5 percent and 5.5 percentage points lower than that in the first three quarters; that of cultural service industry was US$711,142,735,612 (4,596.4 billion yuan), up 7.5 percent and 1.5 percentage points higher than that in the first three quarters.

In terms of sub sectors, the operating revenue of the core cultural field was US$932,593,979,870 (6,029.5 billion yuan), an increase of 3.8 percent over the previous year, and the growth rate was 2.3 percentage points higher than that in the first three quarters; the related cultural field was US$591,201,560,040 (3,822 billion yuan), a decrease of 0.1 percent, and the decline rate was 3.7 percentage points lower than that in the first three quarters.
 
In terms of regions, the operating revenue in the western region was US$139,896,028,720 (904.4 billion yuan), an increase of 4.1 percent over the previous year, and the growth rate was 3.2 percentage points higher than that in the first three quarters; the operating revenue in the eastern and central regions was US$1,143,778,422,340 and US$226,680,057,792 (7,394.3 and 1,465.6 billion yuan), respectively, and the growth rate decreased from 0.4 and 1.5 percent in the first three quarters to 2.3 and 1.4 percent respectively; the operating revenue in the northeast region was US$13,488,008,800 (87.2 billion yuan), a decrease of 8.6 percent, and the decrease rate narrowed by 7.3 percentage points.
