Russia may increase taxes on imports of apples, pears, quinces and plums. As East fruit reports, the Russian Federation has recently approved development plan for fruits and berries until 2023.

Minister of Environment and Agriculture Levan Davitashvili has noted in an interview with Forbes Week that he does not welcome such restrictions, noting that every country has its own domestic policy. Levan Davitashvili stressed the importance of business diversification in this direction.

"Despite certain tariff conditions, we must be able to export our products to markets outside the country, not only in Russia but also in other markets. However, this or that culture is aimed at a specific market. We understand that there is great competition on the apple. There are several European countries that are also major suppliers to Russia.

If our manufacturers turn out to be as effective suppliers as other countries they will be able to compete, though we need to think about other markets as well. If we spend less, we will be able to overcome the customs tax and it will not become a barrier. However, it is difficult to diversify the markets for some fruits because they are perishable products,” - Davitashvili said.
