Georgian companies do import Russian wheat any longer, as Russia has imposed wheat export tax. However, the country does not have high customs tax on wheat flour imports, so this fact has encouraged Georgian companies to make flour imports in Georgia.

As of the official statistics, in 2021 Georgia bought a total of 366,766 thousand tons of wheat and spent USD 93.4 million. The largest volume of purchases was made from the Russian Federation. In particular, last year Georgia bought wheat worth USD 87.4 million (337,694 thousand tons) from Russia, which was almost USD20 million less compared to 2020 (488,279 thousand tons).

The official statistics show, that wheat flour imports have increased 4 folds in Georgia in 2021, because Russia does not have high customs tax on the flour imports.
