Investigation Service Detained One Person Due To Storing Non-Excised Cigarettes

As a result of operative-searching and investigative activities, representatives of the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia detained one person on the fact of storing a large amount of excisable goods subject to marking without excise marks.

As a result of investigative activities, 2 195 boxes of various types of non-excised cigarettes, intended for sale, having a value of GEL 9 658 were seized from the accused's house, in Tbilisi.

The investigation is underway under the second part of Article 200 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment from 4 to 6 years.

The Investigation Service continues intensive investigative activities in order to detect and prevent these types of crimes. During the current year, 174 persons were exposed on the fact of storage, transportation and selling of non-excised cigarettes, a total of 403 000 packs of non-excised cigarettes of various types, intended for sale, were seized from the exposed persons, market value of which is about GEL 2 000 000.
