Otar Danelia, former chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Agrarian Affairs, has been appointed as the head of the National Agency of Mines. Otar Danelia served as the Minister of Agriculture between 2014-2016.

The National Agency of Mines issues the necessary licenses for the extraction of minerals. The institution is regulated by the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, as well as the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture.

According to the website of the Agency, the process of reforming the Georgian mining sector is currently underway, which includes gradual changes in the legislation regulating the mining areas.
