Union of Oil Importers: Bitumen imports decreased by 34% due to covid-19

Union of Oil Importers notes that 15.6 thousand tons of petroleum bitumen was imported to Georgia in August of this year, which is 0.5 thousand tons or 3.1% less than in July (16.1 thousand tons) and 11.9 thousand tons or 43.3% less compared to the same period of the last year (27.5 thousand tons).

"64.1% (10.0 thousand tons) of imports were made from the Republic of Azerbaijan, 32.1% (5.0 thousand tons) - from Iraq, 3.8% (0.6 thousand tons) - from Turkey.

Imports of petroleum bitumen in amounted to 72.9 thousand tons January-August this year, which is 37.6 thousand tons or 34% less comparing to the same period of the last year (110.5 thousand tons). Including, 60.4% (44.0 thousand tons) of imports come from Azerbaijan. Then follows: Iraq - 22.2% (16.2 thousand tons), Islamic Republic of Iran - 10.4% (7.6 thousand tons), Russia - 4.4% (3.2 thousand tons), Armenia – 1,2% (0.9 thousand tons), Turkey - 1.1% (0.8 thousand tons), the United Arab Emirates – 0,3% (0.2 thousand tons)," - said in a statement by the Union of Petroleum Importers.

The agency explains that the decrease in petroleum bitumen is due to the Covid 19 pandemic and also to the fact that in the last few months there has been no import of petroleum bitumen from the Islamic Republic of Iran, which in turn has been a major supplier of these products in recent years.
