The US does not want and it is not in our interest for the war to spread to Georgia, US Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan said.

According to Kelly Degnan, they have never talked to Georgia or any other country about opening a second front.

Kelly Degnan also spoke about Georgia's support for Ukraine and noted that the US clearly told the Georgian government that it understood the special situation the country was in.

"The United States of America highly appreciates Georgia's support to Ukraine at international forums. Fast action of the National Bank in compliance with financial sanctions. The impressive humanitarian aid that the Georgian people and the Georgian government have given to the Ukrainian people.

The United States made it clear from the beginning to the Georgian authorities that we fully understood the special situation in which Georgia was on Russia's southern flank, with 20 percent of its territory occupied. We fully understand the difficult situation Georgia is in and appreciate the steps Georgia has taken to show support for Ukraine and do what it can. That is what we asked all countries, to do what they can - to support Ukraine in the fight for its sovereignty against Russian aggression and to prevent Russia's attempt to restore the Russian Empire, as Putin himself admitted.

The USA does not want and it is not in our interest for this war to spread to Georgia or any other country. As I mentioned earlier, we are doing everything we can to restore peace and end this war as quickly as possible. We have no interest in this war spreading to Georgia. We have never talked with Georgia or any other country about opening a second front. This is simply not true," the Ambassador said in an interview with Imedi.
