Short-term Economic Indicator of Kazakhstan in 2020 was 97.6%

The short-term economic indicator in January-December 2020 compared with January-December 2019 was 97.6%. Calculation of the short-term economic indicator is implemented to ensure efficiency and is based on the change in output indexes for basic sectors: agriculture, industry, construction, trade, transport and communications, constituting over 60% of GDP.
 
According to the Bureau of National statistics of Kazakhstan, the volume of investment in fixed assets in January-December 2020 was US$ 29,176,234,981 (12322.7 billion tenge), which is 3.4% less than in January-December 2019.
 
Industrial output in January-December 2020 was US$ 63,319,866,798 (26743. 4 billion tenge), which is 0.7% less than in 2019. The decrease was recorded in the following industries: mining and quarrying (by 3.7%), water supply, collection, processing and disposal of waste, industrial pollution elimination activities (by 2.6%), electricity, gas, steam, hot water and air-conditioned (by 0.3%). Meanwhile, there is an increase in the manufacturing industry (by 3.9%).
 
The volume of gross output (services) of agricultural, forestry and fisheries in January-December 2020 was US$ 14,847,733,822 (6271 billion tenge), which is 5.6% more than in January-December 2019.
 
The volume of the construction works (services) in January-December 2020 was US$ 11,648,521,903 (4919,8 billion tenge), which is 11.2% more than in January-December 2019.
 
In transport and warehousing sector the volume index in January-December 2020 was 82.8%.
 
The volume of freight turnover in January-December 2020 amounted to 588.7 billion ton-kilometers (given the estimation of the volume of turnover of individual entrepreneurs involved in commercial transportation), which is 3.4% less than January-December 2019. The volume of passenger turnover was 108.3 billion passenger-kilometers and decreased by 63.3%.
 
In communication sector the volume index in January-December 2020 was 108.6%.
 
In trade sector the volume index in January-December 2020 was 92.7%.
 
The volume of retail trade in January-December 2020 was US$ 27,397,869,031 (11571.6 billion tenge) or 95.9% as compared to January-December 2019 (in the comparable prices).
 
The volume of wholesale trade in January-December 2020 was US$ 56,795,482,279 (23987.8 billion tenge) or 92.6% as compared to January-December2019 (in the comparable prices).
 
The foreign trade turnover of Kazakhstan in January-November 2020 was 77743 million US dollars and compared to January-November 2019 it decreased by 12.9%, including export – 43356 million US dollars (18.2% less), imports – 34387 million US dollars (5% less).
 
The number of registered legal entities as of January 1, 2021 was 461983 units and compared with the corresponding period of the previous year increased by 3%, including453343 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating entities was 330312 including 321936 small businesses (less than 100 employees).
 
The consumer price index in December 2020 compared to December 2019 was 107.5%. The food prices have increased by 11.3%, non-food – by 5.5%, paid services –by 4.2%. Prices of industrial products in December 2020compared to December 2019 has decreased by 4.2%.
 
Social sector

Per capita nominal income of the population estimated in November 2020 was US$ 269 (113433 tenge) (preliminary data) which is 2.1% higher compared to November 2019, the real monetary income in November 2020 decreased by 4.8%.
 
Average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (estimated) in December 2020 was US$ 522.90 (220848 tenge).
 
The number of unemployed people determined by the ILO methodology for the III quarter of 2020 amounted to 454.8 thousand people. The unemployment rate was 5% of the labor force. Number of persons registered with employment offices as unemployed at the end of December 2020 was 141.8 thousand people or 1.5% of the labor force.
