Since February 24, the day when Russia kicked off its full-scale invasion, 3.4 million citizens have returned to Ukraine from abroad. Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service spokesperson Andriy Demchenko delivered an update at a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine - Ukrinform.

"In total, more than 10 million people have crossed the state border in both directions since February 24, including 6.1 million travelers who have been registered for departure, of whom the vast majority (5.4 million) are citizens of Ukraine. At the same time, 3.4 million Ukrainian citizens crossed into Ukraine," Demchenko said.

He added that, presently, the average daily number of border crossings fluctuates at 85,000-90,000 and 20,000 vehicles in both directions on the borders with the EU and Moldova. The largest flow, traditionally, is observed across the border with Poland.

Polish border guards speak of the queues consisting of cars coming into Ukraine in certain checkpoints, while they seeing no significant queues going out of Ukraine.

"As seaports remain blocked, of course, logistics flows have increased on the western borders, leading to queues of trucks. Therefore, we are working with neighboring countries to develop joint efforts to increase the capacity of checkpoints," said the spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service.

On June 20, the Krakovets-Korczowa checkpoint on the border with Poland was reopened following an upgrade. Its capacity has increased by 50% due to a larger number of lanes for trucks (10 against 4) and the set-up of additional customs and passport control pavilions.
