A total of 30.2 million passengers visited Spain in November, marking an increase of 52.7 per cent compared to the figures of the same period last year, according to the data provided by Truespana, which is the official Spanish website for tourism.

Such figures show that Spain welcomed nearly four million passengers, recovering 70 per cent of the 2019 volume, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

In this regard, the Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, stressed that this data shows that international tourists are choosing to visit Spain mainly due to the confidence generated by the high vaccination rate in this territory as more than 37.7 million of Spaniards are fully vaccinated, which is 89.7 of the target population.

According to Minister Maroto, the increase in the number of arrivals from other countries shows that “Spain has proven to be a safe destination, which is why it is necessary to continue to make progress with vaccinations, especially for children, which has just begun, and in prevention to avoid contagion,” the Spanish government reports in a press release.

The report shows that of the total number of international tourists who travelled in Spain during last month, the vast majority of them or 53 per cent chose low-cost airlines, while the remaining or 47 per cent opted for traditional airlines.

A significant increase has also been noted in all the main source countries, with the United Kingdom (17.9 per cent) as the leading market, marking a 659.7 per cent year-on-year increase, while the arrivals were mainly headed to the Canary Islands.

At the same time, travellers from Germany (15.3 per cent) accounted for the second-largest number of arrivals in Spain during November, which shows that there has been recorded an increase of 470.6 per cent, compared to the same period last month figures.

Arrivals from Italy accounted for the third-largest number of arrivals in Spain during November, or 10.1 per cent of the total, marking a 1,080 per cent year-on-year increase, while Madrid, Catalonia and the Canary Islands were the main destinations.

According to the report, the United States is again the main source market for traditional airlines, with 3.3 per cent of travellers (1,463 per cent), the only non-European country.

Madrid was the main destination autonomous community in the last month (26.6 per cent), followed by the Canary Islands and Catalonia. Spain’s capital also registered the highest share of international arrivals on traditional airlines (43.1 per cent), while Andalusia recorded the most notable increase compared to November 2020 (734.0 per cent).

In July, authorities in Spain unfolded their plans that included the goal to receive about 45 million international tourists by the end of this year.
