The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Levan Davitashvili declares that the Russian Federation has not officially applied to the Government of Georgia regarding the issue of restoring direct flights to Georgia.

According to the Minister, there are many difficulties and challenges regarding the restoration of direct flights between Georgia and Russia, and this issue cannot be solved unilaterally.

"Regarding this matter, there are many technical issues, many difficulties and many challenges, and this is not an issue to be resolved unilaterally, although we do not have such an official address yet, but there are certain restrictions from various international aviation organizations in relation to Russian airlines, so this issue cannot be resolved easily today," said Levan Davitashvili.

Denis Gonchar, director of the fourth department of the CIS countries of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, said in an interview with the Russian TASS that Russia may resume direct flights with Georgia, but "necessary prerequisites" must be created for this. "As for the prospects of restoration of direct air traffic and visa liberalization for the citizens of Georgia, if the necessary preconditions for this are created - the conditions are well known in Tbilisi - we do not rule out making decisions on this issue," Gonchar said.
