The State Audit Office inspects the procurements of the Ministry of Health and its subordinate agencies, including the NCDC. According to the agency, the audit process will be completed in about a month, after which the report will become public.

The audit will cover a period from 2020 to June 2021 and its purpose is to assess the procurement system.

According to the First Deputy Minister of Health Tamar Gabunia, investigation is underway due to the shortage of AstraZeneca vaccines observed in the last week.

"I do not think this audit will take much time, probably a few days, and as soon as it is over, we ask them to inform the public about the shortcomings," said Deputy Health Minister Tamar Gabunia.

Deputy Health Minister notes, that their goal is to prevent the recurrence of a fact that happened at the beginning of last week and the citizens were temporarily refused vaccination due to the shortage of "AstraZeneca" vaccines.

“We do not want to repeat such a shortcoming when the vaccination scale will be higher and we do not want to delay vaccination process from the vaccine storage facility to its consumption facility. This shortcoming has been identified in the first place and the audit is already investigating this case with all relevant agencies," the deputy health minister said.
