Patient number is 60% down, expenditures – up, - Giorgi Ambroliani, head of Hospital Medalpha told BM.GE.

Giorgi Ambroliani says that medical institutions have faced many problems, including problems created by Government Resolution 520 in a year and a half.

According to him, expenditures are grown as the medical sector buys the equipment in foreign currency on the background of GEL devaluation. Ambroliani notes, that it is the acute problem for medical institutions, which are already in crisis.

“To say simply, all medical items including gloves, disposable coats, so-called implants for cardiac surgery are imported and we pay money in foreign currency. These expenditures are grown and we have to make a choice on the quality. Low quality will have a very bad result”, said Giorgi Ambroliani.

According to him, the number of patients is down amid pandemic.

“The number of patients is 60% down, while utility bills are grown. This means, that both direct and indirect costs have increased for the medical sector. The prices of consumables are grown as well”, the head of Medalpha notes.

Ambroliani notes, that funding of the medical institutions is also reduced in the last year and a half due to Resolution 520. Moreover, the Ministry of Health has issued an order according to which funding of the planned surgeries under universal health care is suspended until March.
