The Loan Portfolio of Georgian Banks Increased to 36.3 Billion GEL

The National Bank of Georgia has published information on the loan portfolio of commercial banks operating in the country. According to the document, the total loan portfolio issued by banks in October 2020 is 36.35 billion GEL. The growth of loans without the effect of the exchange rate was 0.89% in the previous month.
 
"The volume of loans issued by commercial banks (excluding interbank loans) in October 2020 decreased by 31.86 million GEL (by 0.09%) compared to the previous month (increased by 0.89% without the effect of the exchange rate) and amounted to 36.35 billion GEL by November 1 of this year. During the same period, loans in national currency increased by GEL 468.32 million (by 3.03%), while loans in foreign currency decreased by GEL 500.18 million (by 2.39%) (excluding exchange rate effects, decreased by 0.68%).
 
For resident legal entities, at the end of October 2020, commercial banks issued GEL 4.90 billion in the national currency (4.66% more than in the previous month) and GEL 12.54 billion (2.08% less than in the previous month) in foreign currency (Without exchange rate effect by 0.01% less), - the National Bank report reads.
 
At the same time, according to NBG, half of the total loans come from households - "by October 2020, the volume of lending to the resident household sector increased by 0.16%, or 29.13 million GEL, and amounted to 18.08 billion GEL as of November 1 this year."
 
"As of November 1, 2020, the larization ratio of total loans was 43.87 percent, up 1.33 percentage points from October 1, 2020 (excluding the exchange rate effect, increased by 0.90 percentage points)," the NBG report said.
