Turkey Statistical Institute ( TSI ) has announced work force statistics for April.
Accordingly, Turkey in the 15 and over age group at the number of unemployed, 3 million 775 thousand people fell in April decreased by 427 thousand persons compared to the same month last year. In the same period, the unemployment rate fell by 0.2 points to 12.8 percent.
Non-agricultural unemployment rate was estimated as 14.9 percent with a decrease of 0.1 points.
Unemployment rate decreased by 0.4 points in April compared to the previous month. In the month in question, the youth unemployment rate, which includes the 15-24 age group, increased by 1.2 points to 24.4 percent. The unemployment rate in the 15-64 age group was 13.1 percent with a 0.2 point decrease.
The number of employed people decreased by 2 million 585 thousand people in April compared to the same month of the previous year and decreased to 25 million 614 thousand people. The employment rate also fell 4.9 points to 41.1 percent.
In this period, the number of employed people decreased by 491 thousand in the agricultural sector, 209 thousand in the industrial sector, 361 thousand in the construction sector, and 1 million 524 thousand in the service sector. 17.5 percent of those employed were in agriculture, 20.9 percent in industry, 4.9 percent in construction and 56.7 percent in service.
Labor force participation rate
Workforce decreased by 3 million 13 thousand people in April compared to the same month of the previous year and became 29.2 million 388 thousand people, and the rate of participation in the workforce was 47.2 percent with a decrease of 5.7 points.
The proportion of unregistered workers, which showed the share of employees in total workers, regardless of any social security institution, decreased by 5.5 points compared to the same period of last year and became 28.7 percent. The rate of informal workers in the non-agricultural sector decreased by 5.8 points compared to the same period of the previous year and was determined as 17.3 percent.
Seasonally adjusted employment
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased by 0.7 points compared to the previous period and became 13.8 percent. The number of unemployed increased by 76 thousand people compared to the previous period and reached 4 million 80 thousand people. Seasonally adjusted employment rate decreased by 1.6 points compared to the previous period and became 41 percent. The number of employed people decreased by 968 thousand and was estimated at 25 million 541 thousand.
The rate of participation in the seasonally adjusted labor force decreased by 1.5 points compared to the previous period and became 47.5 percent. The number of people participating in the workforce decreased by 893 thousand and was calculated as 29 million 620 thousand.
