The upper interest of the pension loans in “Liberty Bank” will be set at 26% in 2023 as the Majority MP, Irakli Zarkua and the Chair of the Political Group “Citizens”, Aleko Elisashvili stated at the briefing today.

“The improved conditions apply the deposition/withdrawal of the sums, and the payment of the utility fees free of charge, with the upper interest of 26%. It is the main achievement of our initiative. As you may know, the pension loans used to be issued with the interests of 35-36%”, - Zarkua noted adding that the achieved result evidences a successful collaboration of the opposition, accented to the interests of the population, with the ruling party in case of the mutual will.

“Offering the flexible conditions for the pensioners was a relevant issue in the recent period. In this regard, I was the initiator of this topic in Parliament from the very first day on behalf of the Georgian Dream. My initiative was shared by MPs Elisashvili and Ioseliani and thus, we jointly started the realization of the idea of the set-up of the Commission and managed to attract a certain part of the opposition as well. During this period, we set up a joint Commission with the initiative of Irakli Garibashvili, composed of the Ministers, MPs and the representatives of the National Bank. As a result, we managed to offer flexible conditions. The tender was called on May 11, and the aspirant was revealed on May 16”, – he added noting that the agreement with “Liberty Bank” envisages the 7-year period and maintenance of the flexible conditions.

According to Elisashvili, the electoral reform resulted in a second case, when the ruling party and the opposition successfully collaborated.

“Our joint efforts led us to the result that the Bank ceased robbing the pensioners and not only stopped issuing the loans with the cosmic interests but the upper interest is set at 26%. It is the limit initially provided in the tender conditions. “Liberty Bank” will no longer use its discretion to issue loans to the pensioners with high interests. Naturally, it will not enrich our aged citizens but definitely is a step forward to alleviate the hard life of the pensioners”, - he stated.
