The US warns its citizens against traveling to Georgia due to COVID-19. As compared to its bordering neighbors, Georgia is the only country which is at Level 4 or of very high level of COVID-19.

“Avoid travel to Georgia. If you must travel to Georgia, make sure you are fully vaccinated before travel. Because of the current situation in Georgia, even fully vaccinated travelers may be at risk for getting and spreading COVID-19 variants,” reads an official statement of the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

CDC groups countries into four levels: Level 1: low, Level 2: moderate, Level 3: high and Level 4: very high.

Georgia is the only country, as compared to its bordering neighbors to be in the Level 4 or a country with a very high level of COVID-19.

Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia and Turkey are at Level 3.

Over 60 countries are at level 4 as of June 8.

According to the Georgian health authorities, as of June 8, a total of 178,738 persons have received at least a single dose of coronavirus vaccine since Georgia initiated vaccine rollout on March 15. In the meantime, 51,248 persons have been fully vaccinated.
