The demand for ordinary workers in the agriculture industry is usually very high, - Gela Khanishvili, the Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture, made this statement at the sitting of the Parliamentary Committee.

According to him, the unemployment rate exists in the country, but "remuneration agricultural workers has become equal to employees of the public sector.

“Average remuneration of workers in the agriculture sector totals to 50 GEL (and in some cases even 70-80 GEL) per day in Kakheti at this stage. In other words, the demand for ordinary workers in the agriculture sector is very high. We are talking about the ordinary workforce without any special skills. Demand is increased for operators and tractor drivers," said the Deputy Minister.

Gela Khanishvili cited the example of the investor Magalashvili in the village of Agara, who needs 50-60 workers a day and does not have one.

"This is a reality. There is a serious problem with the workforce in Kakheti as well. COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the development of economy, has shown lack of workers in the agriculture sector”, - he says.

Prior to Gela Khanishvili, the HORECA sector also spoke about the lack of staff. Representatives of hotels and restaurants say that it is difficult to work due to the lack of waiters and cooks.
