“There is a total swamp in the Georgian Railway and it is a bubble of “vague” schemes”, - Georgian Railway is one of the state-owned enterprises, which is frequently criticized by Former Economy Minister Giorgi Kobulia. He considers that the enterprise is managed ineffectively and it requires privatization.

The former minister also asks the acting Prime Minister how much the government is motivated by the privatization of the state-owned company.

“Who is ready and when will our railway be privatized and increase its efficiency; When the government answers this question, then we can talk about energy and other difficult projects, for example, production of hydrogen. There is a total swamp in Georgian Railway and it is a bubble of “vague” schemes. I will not answer the question why privatization does not take place, I think it is already clear to everyone - there are interests of certain groups that do not like it and the second issue is populism, that state-owned enterprises are sold… Nobody talks about the fact that privatization will bring much more benefits to the country, because you do not agree with it," said Giorgi Kobulia.

Georgian Railway suffered a loss of 54 million GEL in Q1, 2021. The company’s financial report for Q2 is not published yet.
