As of June 1, 2021, the banking sector of Georgia is represented by 15 commercial banks.
According to the statistics of the National Bank of Georgia, in May, compared to the previous month, the total assets of commercial banks (at current prices) decreased by 1.58 billion GEL, or 2.7% (increased by 0.46% without exchange rate effect) and amounted to 57.09 billion GEL by June 1, 2021.
The share capital of the banking sector is GEL 6.57 billion, which is 11.5% of the total assets of commercial banks.
In addition, according to NBG statistics, bank deposits increased in May 2021 compared to April. In particular, the volume of bank deposits in May amounted to 837 524 thousand GEL, while in April, this figure was 768 639 thousand GEL. Non-bank deposits decreased from 35 621 255 thousand GEL to 35 412 837 thousand GEL in May compared to April.
