If the pandemic is not continued, tourism will almost recover to pre-pandemic levels in 2022, - Kakha Samkurashvili, senior analyst at Galt & Taggart declared at the webinar hosted by the Georgian National Tourism Administration on tourism recovery forecasts in Georgia.

According to Galt & Taggart's updated forecast, tourism recovery is expected at 36% of 2019 in 2021.

“We were more optimistic at the beginning of the year, as we hoped that vaccination would be faster and mass vaccination would start in the second quarter, instead of the third quarter. This figure would be a good indicator if tourism returns at 36% of 2019.

As for the 2022, if the pandemic is not continued, we think that tourism sector almost will recover to pre-pandemic levels in 2022. With a positive scenario, 2022 will be a year as most of the population of Georgia should be vaccinated. Supposedly, population of Western as well as Eastern European countries will be fully vaccinated and the fear of travel will be left behind. In general, if Abraham Maslow was alive, he would put “traveling” one of the lower echelons of his pyramid. Nothing will replace people’s habit and they will travel after the epidemic," said Senior Analyst of Galt & Taggart.
