Trade Remains the Most Attractive Business Activity for Georgian Commercial Banks for Financing

Commercial banks loans granted in both national and foreign currencies to the resident legal entities by type of activity during Jan-Nov 2020 has drop as compared with the same period of the prior year. With GEL 3, 847, 392, 000 both in national and foreign currencies, trade remains the main target of Georgian commercial banks for financing. 
 
According to the National Bank of Georgia (NBG), total volume of commercial banks loans granted in national currency to the resident legal entities by type of activity amounted to GEL 6, 622, 047, 000 during Jan-Nov 2020, down from GEL 7, 921, 406, 000 as of the same period of the prior year. Loan portfolio in foreign currency was GEL 6, 716, 420, 000 during the report period, down from GEL 8, 435, 888, 000 as of Jan-Nov 2019. 
Following trade, which amounted GEL 3, 847, 392, 000 the second business activity by the volume of loan is industry – GEL 3, 761, 792, 000 (both in national and foreign currencies) and construction – GEL 1, 837, 258, 000 (both in national and foreign currencies). 
 
The share of loan portfolio per each business activity granted in national currency during Jan-Nov 2020 was as follows: agriculture, forestry, fishes – GEL 211, 853, 000; industry – GEL 2, 159, 194, 000; construction – 667, 914, 000; trade – 2, 098, 096, 000; hotels and restaurants – GEL 94, 177, 000; transport and communication – GEL 84, 893, 000; financial intermediation – 794, 435, 000; real estates and researches – 122, 390, 000; education – 14, 763, 000; healthcare and social services – GEL 156, 189, 000 and other services – GEL 218, 147, 000. 
 
As for the loan portfolio per business activities granted in the foreign currency was as follows:  agriculture, forestry, fishes – GEL 147, 629, 000; industry – 1, 602, 598, 000; construction – GEL 1, 169, 344, 000; trade – 1, 749, 296, 000; hotels and restaurants – GEL 595, 175, 000; transport and communication – GEL 165, 057, 000; financial intermediation – GEL 192,725, 000; real estate and researches – GEL 642, 332, 000; education – GEL 46, 272, 000; healthcare and social services – GEL 167, 167, 000 and other services – GEL 238, 822, 000.
